Accessibility

A website everyone can use.

People often arrive here tired, recovering, or arranging care at short notice. The site is built so that eyesight, dexterity, assistive technology or a slow connection never stand between you and the help you came for.

Our commitment

Many of the people this site exists for are recovering from surgery, tired, in pain, or arranging care for someone they love in a hurry. A website that is hard to see, hard to operate or hard to understand would fail them at exactly the wrong moment.

We therefore aim for this site to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA, and we treat accessibility problems as defects to be fixed, not suggestions.

What the site does for you

  • Every page works with a keyboard alone, with a visible focus outline and a skip link straight to the main content.
  • Pages use proper headings and landmarks, so screen readers can move around them confidently.
  • Text colours are checked against their backgrounds to meet WCAG contrast standards, and text can be resized to at least 200% without breaking the layout.
  • Animations are decorative touches, never the only way information is shown, and they are switched off for anyone whose device asks for reduced motion.
  • Photographs carry written descriptions for people who cannot see them.
  • Forms have visible labels, and errors are explained in words next to the field, never by colour alone.
  • The site works at any screen size, without horizontal scrolling.

Known limitations

Honesty helps more than a perfect score. Currently:

  • The Care Quality Commission rating box on two pages is built and served by the CQC, not by us, so its accessibility is theirs to control. We link to the same information as text.
  • We review the site’s accessibility ourselves as we build it; it has not yet had a formal external audit.
